How Many Ips Does a Craigslist Proxy Need?

March 3, 2009 By David Warren

Getting ads live and posted on Craigslist can sometimes be VERY annoying. Setting up your own Craigslist proxy is one method that you can use to help increase your chances of ads going live. However, before I continue please keep in mind that using a proxy server DOES NOT mean you can now post anything and everything you want. There are many filters in place that Craigslist uses to prevent people from over posting, and using a proxy server does not mean you can bypass these filters. So, I assume you have or are about to setup your own proxy server for Craigslist, and if this is the case then you need to decide on something VERY important: how many IPs do you want on your proxy?

IPs are very important for posting ads, because Craigslist tracks IP activity. So, the first question is how many ads do you want to post? If you are posting a lot, then you will need a lot of IPs. How many is a lot? It is hard to say because Craigslist obviously doesn’t reveal anything about how it operates, so you will need to test and see what works for you. The general rule of thumb in the past was ten posts per IP, but this may have changed overtime and it may also vary depending on the section you post in. I would definitely recommend that you get AT LEAST two IPs for your proxy, and if you can get more then all the better. I would aim for anywhere from two to five posts per IP per day. If you wanted to post ten ads a day, then I would recommend anywhere from two to five IPs. Want to find out if the number of IPs you have is enough or not? Well, there is one way to do this but it is time consuming.

The only way to know if the number of IPs you have on your Craigslist proxy is enough or not is to TEST, and this is how I would go about doing it. Once you had your elite proxy setup and however many IPs you needed, just go and start posting ads as you normally do. Keep doing this until you see that your ads are getting ghosted or no longer appearing live on Craigslist. Remember that there are MANY factors that can affect if your ads go live or not, but if you are certain that it’s not the content of your ad or anything else, then you can be fairly certain that the problem is your IP. This is a time consuming way to find out how many IPs you should get for your proxy, but it is the most reliable way and future proof way, because if you have any problems again in the future you can just retest and figure out if the number of IPs you have is sufficient or not.

So How Many IPs Does Your Craigslist Proxy Need?

There is no single answer to how many IPs your proxy should have for posting on Craigslist, but it can never hurt to have too many IPs. The other thing is also your budget. Not everyone can afford the same kind of proxy setup, but one way to make sure that you get the best bang for your buck is to setup your own elite proxy server. Doing it yourself saves you a considerable amount of money, and if you would like to find out more about how you can do it just click on the banner up the very top to find out more about my eBook and videos which take you step by step through the process of setting up an elite proxy.
