I’ve talked at great length about what kind of proxy server works best for Craigslist, an elite proxy incase you missed that article, and also other issues like how many IPs and what kind of IPs. However, some people might be thinking why do they have to pay to setup their own elite proxy to post ads with? Why not just use a free proxy, since you can simply use Google and find lots of forums or other websites with proxy lists that are completely free. Well, here’s why.
Firstly, some of the free proxy servers you find online are not anonymous. This means that if you use that proxy server your home computer IP can still be seen. These proxies are usually used for caching and speeding up network performance, they aren’t meant to change your IP online. So, using one of these proxies is pointless if posting ads on Craigslist, because Craigslist can still see your real IP on your computer at home.
Secondly, if you do happen to find an anonymous proxy out there, the other problem is that sometimes they “leak” the fact that the IP comes from a proxy server. This isn’t the same as not being anonymous, because your home computer IP is still hidden, but if anyone looks at your new IP it tells you that it is a proxified IP. It just means that the IP comes from a proxy server. This might not be a big issue for most websites, but Craigslist does NOT want people using proxies, so if it sees anyone using an IP from a proxy server, then you can be sure that any ads you post are going to be ghosted or blocked.
Thirdly, if you are REALLY lucky and do find a totally anonymous free proxy that doesn’t leak the information that it comes from a proxy server, the other problem is speed, or the lack of. Free proxies that are anonymous are usually dead within 24 hours. If they don’t die within 24 hours, then they will be so slow that posting ads on Craigslist will be near impossible. Why are they so slow? Because they are usually being used by heaps of people at the same time. The proxy is bogged down with too many people trying to do too many different things all at once. This kind of proxy might still work for posting ads on Craigslist, but it will be so slow that it won’t be worth your time.
Getting Your Own Craigslist Proxy
That’s why you need to setup your own elite proxy for posting ads on Craigslist. Of course it would be nice if everything was free, but if you are making money from Craigslist then it is worth the investment. Not only do you get a proxy server that is totally anonymous and can’t be detected as coming from a proxy, but you get one that is very fast because you are the only one using it.
