Ads not going live on Craigslist?  Tried everything and not sure what the problem is?  There are a number of reasons why you might be having problems getting ads to go live on Craigslist.  Here are a few tips to help you out and hopefully get your ads to go live.

First, try to avoid using any words or phrases that don’t match the category you are posting in.  If you are posting in the for sale section, don’t post an unrelated ad such as a small business opportunity.  Craigslist has several spam filters in place that constantly monitor for any unrelated or irrelevant keywords.  Each section on Craigslist is different and most likely uses a different set of filters.  Second, avoid using any special html codes outside of what Craigslist supports.  Craigslist has a page which clearly shows what html codes they support and using any html codes that aren’t listed there may increase the chances of your ads being blocked.  Third, limit the number of posts you make per day per IP.  Generally speaking only post 1 ad per IP per day.  Doing anymore than this will work, but if you post too many ads from one IP it will increase the chance of you being flagged as a spammer.  Finally, avoid using any html images in your ads.  There are sections which allow you to link to external images but doing so does increase the chance of your ad being blocked.  Many sections do not permit images and posting ads with images will result in an immediate ban.

Posting ads on Craigslist can be troublesome, but if you follow the above advice it should help you to increase your stick rate.  Never spam Craigslist and only post within their terms and you should find that your ads more often than not do go live.

It isn’t a topic that is discussed often, but by not making sure you are using IPs on your proxy server from different C class IP ranges you are opening the door to be blocked by Craiglsist.

IPs are seperated into four ranges, A B C and D. By using ranges we are able to log network IDs and network activity. Everyone on the internet is assigned an IP which is used to identify them while they are online. Most people know that by going offline and then back online you are able to change your IP, but usually the new IP you are assigned is within the same range. This makes it easy for companies to log your activities, as even though you have changed your IP, it has not been changed to the extent that they are unable to make any connection between your old and new IP. It is more than possible that this is exactly what Craigslist uses as part of their system to filter out spam. If you wish to remain anonymous to Craigslist then C class IP ranges for your proxy server should help you to do so.

As already stated above, using IPs in the same C class IP range may make it possible for Craigslist to detect your activity even though you could be using several different accounts (since your new IP isn’t varied enough from the old one to make you look like a completely different user). This also applies to proxy servers and is why you should consider getting IPs from as many different C class IP ranges as possible. Generally speaking, most IPs on proxy servers are all from the same C class IP range, try to make sure this is not the case for your proxy server. If you wish to post a lot of ads on Craigslist then remaining anonymous is very important, so be sure to get a Craigslist Proxy with IPs in different C class IP ranges.

If you frequently use Craigslist then you are probably aware that IP is a big issue when it comes to posting ads on Craigslist. Craigslist tracks and logs all IP activity. This is done by Craigslist for a variety of reasons, the main one being to stop spammers and others who want to abuse and overpost their ads on Craigslist. The downside to this is that sometimes this also affect people who post on Craigslist but are not spammers. If you happen to be using the same IP range as a spammer is, then you will find that you are also blocked from posting on Craigslist. The first solution to being on an IP blocked range is to use dialup. Dialup is generally assigned a dynamic IP each time you connect to the internet. This meaning that each time you dial in you will get a different IP. Immediately this solves your problem and provides you with a different IP each time you connect to the internet. The downside to dialup is that it is extremely slow. If you are a casual poster then dialup might be a viable alternative, but anyone else will probably find dialup a little too slow to tolerate. The second solution is through the use of air cards. Air cards offer wireless access to the internet. Again, similar to dialup they offer a new IP each time you connect to the internet. They are much faster and offer broadband like speeds so aren’t as slow as dialup. However, air cards have been used and abused by many people on Craigslist for years and as a result many people believe Craigslist has blocked or at least red flagged the IPs used by Craigslist. Therefore you may find that an air card does not solve your problem of needing a fresh new IP that isn’t already blocked. A third solution is to actually renew or refresh your own IP from your current internet provider. If you are on DSL that is dynamic, you can do this by simply reconnecting to the internet. However, many people can not get a fresh IP doing this even though they may be on a dynamic connection. One solution to this is to disconnect and power down/off your modem over night. When you power it up the next morning you should find that you have a different IP. You can also try using ipconfig /release, turn off and on your modem then ipconfig /renew. This is probably the easiest and best solution but for many it still does not work. They are either on fixed IPs or just unable to get a different dynamic IP. The fourth solution, and this may help those who can’t get a new IP via powering down their modem, is to change your network card’s MAC address. You can do this by either getting a new network card or by using some MAC software that allows you to manually edit the number. This method while many times effective can be risky and you may cause damage to your network card making it unusable. A fifth solution is for those who may have an iPhone or other mobile device that has internet access. You can connect your computer through your iPhone and each time you disable and enable wireless/airplane mode you should have a new IP. This is a simple method but for those without an iPhone or similar device it isn’t of much use. The final and probably most effective solution to getting a different IP is through the use of a proxy server, specifically an elite proxy server. The reason this is one of the better solutions is because it works no matter where you are in the world, offers broadband like speeds and you are the only person who has access to it. With an elite proxy your IP is shown as in the USA (or any other country you need) and you access it via a username and password specified by you. You may also be able to select which cities or areas the IPs come from in the USA. Within an instant you are able to change/rotate IPs so you can be using a New York IP one minute and a Chicago IP the next. Elite proxies are not free, but for those serious about posting on Craigslist it is the best solution.

Even if your IP range has been blocked on Craigslist, because of your own actions or others, you can easily change or get a new IP through the use of one of the many methods listed above. However, due to the flexibility, ease of use and access to different IPs, setting up an elite proxy server is the best method to get a new IP for posting ads on Craigslist with.

Your headline really needs to stick out and attract attention. It should create interest and make the user want to click on it to find out more. Don’t reveal everything in your headline. If you reveal too much and give everything away, a person may decide not to click on your headline and instead continue browsing. Therefore, you should focus on creating interest with the goal of making the person want to click on your headline to find out more. A quick example for the Small Biz section would be “How I Fired My Boss & Made Him Work For Me”. You can most likely come up with much better headlines than this, but hopefully this should show you the kind of interest that you should try to create using headlines.

Another way you can improve the effectiveness of your headlines is by using symbols. If you browse through Craigslist you will see that some advertisers are using symbols such as little stars or happy faces in their ad headlines. These are quite easy to use and a quick look through your “start” menu in any Windows based operating system should reveal how to do this. Why are these symbols good to use? Because they stand out. Craigslist users have grown accustomed to the pages upon pages of text while browsing through the different classified sections. As a result, everything begins to look the same, text just looks like plain boring text. However, if you use a symbol, these are vastly different in shape and size to standard text and immediately jump out from the page and draw attention. I wouldn’t overdo the use of these symbols, just one at the start and one at the end. This will greatly improve your chances of drawing in attention and making someone click on your ad to find out more once they have read your interest creating headline.

Craigslist is an enormous site with lots of traffic but one really needs to know what or how to utilize the traffic to its fullest potential. One way you can do this is by making sure your headlines are interest and create interest. Craigslist users are all too used to see thousands upon thousands of ads all selling similar products or services. By making your ad title interesting, there is a good chance they will click on your ad to find out more. Also, through the use of symbols you can make your headline stand out on the page and increase the chance that someone will read your headline and become interested in what you are offering.

The latest move by Craigslist has caused massive uproar from the Craigslist marketing community, or furthermore from Craigslist marketers.  Just what was this move exactly?  The introduction of phone verification on some sections on Craigslist.  Since then, more and more sections have fallen victim to requiring phone verified accounts in order to post ads and has changed forever how marketers use Craigslist.

It all started when Craigslist required phone verified accounts to post in the most heavily trafficked section, that being the erotic services section.  The main reason for this was to try and control the amount of illegal ads being placed there.  This was just the testing phase Craigslist was undergoing before further and more wide implementation of the system to almost every section on Craigslist. Just what does phone verification mean for you if you want to post on Craigslist?  In a nutshell, to post in any of the services section you must first verify your account via phone. If you do not verify your account first, there is no way that you can post an ad.  None at all.  To verify your account, all that is required is that you use a valid phone number so as to receive a pin verification code.  You then simply enter this pin code online and your account is immediately verified.  You can then continue to post ads as per usual, with a few catches.  Since phone verification was introduced, a few things regarding just how often and what sections you can post in have changed. The biggest change was the limitation of how often you can post ads from verified accounts.  There is now a hard 48 hour rule.  According to Craigslist¡¦s terms of service, you can only post one ad every 48 hours.  If you post more than this you risk having your verified account suspended or put on hold.  Is it all bad news since the introduction of phone verification?  No.  The good side is that many spammers have been eliminated from posting as they live outside of the USA or live in the USA but cannot get enough phone numbers to continue posting like they used to.

Just how far Craiglsist is prepared to go to stop unwanted spammers on Craigslist is unknown. Overall, the introduction of Phone Verified Craigslist Accounts has definitely changed Craigslist forever and how you should use it to generate traffic and sales for your business.
