Do IPs Get Created Or Are They Recycled?

March 8th, 2010

Do IPs for proxy servers get created or are they recycled?  Have you ever wondered about where IPs come from?  While they aren’t physical or tangible things, IPs are limited in their number and supply.  If you setup your own elite proxy server and apply for additional IPs, where do those IPs come from?

IPs are never really created, but many people probably mean fresh when they talk about newly created IPs.  There is a small chance that your host can provide you with IPs that are fresh off the rack from ARIN and have never been used.  These obviously are ideal and it’s what everyone wants.  The problem is that fresh IPs are hard to come by and as a result you will probably end up getting recycled IPs.

Recycled IPs are ones that have been used at least once before by someone else.  This may or may not be a problem.  Whether or not it is a problem depends on who and how many people used the IPs before and what you want to use them for.  If you use your proxy server to post on classified websites, then getting fresh or new IPs is probably what you want.  Whatever you use your proxy for, just keep in mind that IPs are usually recycled and there really is no way of knowing in advance what kind of IPs you’ll get for your elite proxy.
