Craigslist Proxy – Does Using a Proxy on Craigslist Cause Ads to be Flagged?

March 7th, 2009
Creztor Tessel asked:

Do you post on Craigslist with a proxy server and Find that you always get ads flagged no matter what you do and no matter what section you post in? Have you thought that perhaps there was a connection between ads being flagged and the use of a proxy for posting?  This first assumption is one that many Craigslist users make and is that their ad was flagged due to some proxy or IP detection spam filter on Craigslist. Usually this isn’t the problem and the actual caused is much simpler.

If you get ads flagged off of Craigslist, don’t assume it is because you posted with a proxy.  If ads are flagged on Craigslist it is usually due to two main reasons.  The first is because visitors to Craigslist considered your ad spam or inappropriate, it has nothing to do with any kind of Craigslist detection. The main problem with Craigslist is that it is user moderated.  What does this mean?  It means the users are the ones who control what is and isn’t permitted.  This is managed on Craigslist through the use of flagging.  If enough users consider your ad to be inappropriate they flag it as spam and it is deleted.  There is another second reason that causes ads to be flagged and is one that not many people stop to consider.  Someone else who is in the same market as you has decided to flag your ads so they can sell more. You will find that they are just deliberately flagging your ads wherever possible. There are literally teams of people that roll 20 deep and just flag stuff for each other.

Usually one of the above reasons is why your ad was flagged. Posting ads that are spammy or may be considered as spam or your competition flagging your ads trying to stop you from posting.  It usually is not due to your Craigslist proxy.

Craigslist Proxy – Does a Craigslist Proxy Server Need a Password?

March 6th, 2009
Creztor Tessel asked:

Thinking about setting up a Craigslist Proxy and curious about why or if a password is really needed to access it?  If this sounds like you, then there are a few things you should know before you setup your proxy server without making it password protected.

Having to constantly enter usernames and passwords when changing IPs can be tiring but should not be neglected. Since a proxy server is on the internet, it is possible that anyone could gain access to the server if they knew the IP. However, some may think that finding the IP of your proxy server is next to impossible due to the large amount of other machines and IPs on the internet. Technology today can allow someone to potentially find your proxy server with great ease by simply scanning IP ranges looking for servers that are not secured with a password. For this reason it is strongly suggested that you ALWAYS use a login and password on your proxy server. Not doing so means that if someone else gains access (very possible this will happen) they will use and abuse your server and you will be responsible for any actions they do. Instead of not using a password, look to use software the can save usernames and passwords for the IP ports on your proxy to save time. Use these instead as they will achieve what you want (speeding up the login process) but also allow you to retain the high level of security that your Craigslist Proxy requires.

So, before you setup your Craigslist proxy remember to make it password protected and instead look for other software or alternatives if you want to avoid having to retype your login details each time.

The Best Craigslist Proxy

March 4th, 2009
Creztor Tessel asked:

Do you have or are you considering setting up a Craigslist proxy? If you have been forced down the road of setting up or looking for your own Craigslist proxy, then these tips may be of use and will help you select the best proxy to use.

Knowing that you need a proxy to post on Craigslist if you are outside of the USA and knowing what to look for in one are two very different things. If you are trying to select the right configuration for your proxy server, make sure it passes all of the below.

* Make sure it is 100% anonymous – Typically, proxy sellers will state in bold letters that their proxies are 100% anonymous. Many use this as nothing more than a tactic to draw in customers. The best way to find out if they are lying or not is by loading up http://www.whatismyipaddress.com and seeing what is displayed. If it shows anything like that you are using a proxy, it won’t work for Craigslist.

* Multiple IPs – You will need multiple IPs. One IP isn’t enough unless you are only posting 1 or 2 ads a day. Check that the proxy provider has no problem with multiple IPs.

* FAST – Typically, you will find yourself using proxies that are so slow, you feel like jumping out a window. So slow in fact that it would take years to do what you need. Check the speed of your proxy by web surfing around or using the “ping” command in the command window. You want a proxy that isn’t slow when web surfing or has around a 200 – 300ms ping time.

Having a proxy server is great and very useful to many people, but be sure to keep the above advice in mind the next time you go looking to setup your own server. If your proxy server doesn’t meet the above criteria, then it is most likely not suitable for posting ads on Craigslist with and should not be used.  You will be much better off by investing in your own Craigslist proxy to post ads with.

Tips to Getting Unlimited Targeted Traffic Using Craigslist

March 4th, 2009
Richelle Whiting asked:

If you want more traffic to your website or blog, Craigslist is one of the best places to get free unlimited traffic to your site.

Your’re not looking for traffic you’re looking for targeted traffic, and craigslist = quality targeted traffic.

Here I’m going to give you a few tips to posting on craigslist to get the most out of your time and efforts.

First, never post the same ad to multiple cities, this is considered cross posting and SPAM.

It might work for a while for some people but sooner or later Craigslist robots will stop you right in your tracks. Your ads will start getting flagged and you’ll wonder why. Trust me.

Instead of posting the same ad all across craigslist, you can mix it up a little by switching up headline and body with each ad, while still promoting the same product or service.

You must use different IP addresses to help avoid getting flagged.

Craigslist knows you by your IP address(your computer’s identity.) Try to change your IP address between every 10 post.

You also want to change e-mail accounts very often. Post no more than 10 ads per day on one e-mail account.

After you have posted 10 ads or less on one e-mail account, then create another account, but don’t forget to change your IP address in between.

You can change your IP address by using a proxy at proxy.org. This is vital to getting lots of traffic through craigslist.

No matter how much traffic craigslist gets, if you don’t have eye popping headlines and a short brief ad, you will be wasting your time.

Make your headline so that it will draw urgency or curiosity to the reader.

Here’s an example: If your selling a lawn mower, your ad could say something like this: “can your lawn mower do this?”

See this headline will draw curiosity to the reader to click your ad to see what’s happening.

You’ll never know unless you try it.

How Many Ips Do I Need on My Craigslist Server?

March 3rd, 2009
Creztor Tessel asked:

ve or are you considering setting up a Craigslist proxy? The exact number of IPs you should get with your proxy is dependent on a few factors. Knowing this in advance will help you make the right decisions for when you setup your server.

The first is what kind of budget do you have to spend on your proxy server and secondly what quantity of ads are you looking to post daily. Not having enough IPs on your proxy obviously means you will be limited in the number of ads you can post. So if you are looking to posts heaps of ads make sure that you get as many IPs as you can afford. Do you just need to post a couple of ads each day on Craigslist? Or do you need to get hundreds of ads up? If you are just looking to post a few ads then you should be fine with just one IP on your proxy server. Anymore than this would be a waste of money and resources. However, for those who want to post a large quantity of ads, such as 100 a day, they should invest in between 5 to 10 IPs to start. Generally speaking, for every IP that you have on your proxy server you can post approximately 10 ads. So that should give you a quick rule to check to see if you have enough IPs on your Craigslist proxy to allow you to post enough ads on Craigslist.

Having a proxy server is great and very useful to many people, but be sure to keep the above advice in mind the next time you go looking to setup your own server. Just how many ads you plan on posting and the exact budget you have to spend will directly impact on the configuration of your server. Doing this will make sure that you make the most of your proxy server.

Craigslist Proxy – are Webproxies a Good Craigslist Proxy?

March 3rd, 2009
Creztor Tessel asked:

Thinking of your own Craigslist proxy? You have more than likely heard of web proxies before. What makes a good proxy server for Craigslist? Can webproxies be used for posting ads on Craigslist?

Their very name, webproxy, falsely leads people into believing that a webproxy can be used as a Craigslist proxy. However, this simply doesn’t work. The main problem with webproxies is their lack of anonymity. If you want to be able to post advertisements on Craigslist with as little trouble as possible then this is something you need to pay attention to. As mentioned, webproxies are not anonymous and they do not hide the fact that they are a proxy. This makes it extremely easy for Craigslist and other sites to first inspect the true nature of an IP and if it is detected as a proxy any ads coming from the IP are banned. Since web proxies typically are free, there are some people who make the mistake of assuming that all proxies are created equally and they try to use them to post on Craigslist. This obviously doesn’t work and they quickly become frustrated. For those wanting to post ads to Craigslist you will need to dig into your pockets and invest in your very own Craigslist proxy. Are you looking into setting up your own Craigslist proxy server and considering using a free provider? You may not know, but free proxies do not work on Craigslist. The main reason they do not work lies in their lack of anonymity, which makes it easy to detect.

Due to their lack of anonymity, free proxy servers are not a suitable Craigslist proxy solution. The best alternative is to invest in your own proxy server which will be 100% anonymous. Doing so will save you a lot of time and energy.

What is a Craigslist Proxy?

February 28th, 2009
Creztor Tessel asked:

There is probably a very good chance that you have heard or seen the term proxy server online before. Before we take an indepth look at how one should use a Craigslist proxy, take some time to understand just what exactly a proxy server is.

A Craigslist proxy is nothing but an online server, an application or a system, which processes the clients request and forwards it to the specified server. When we are connected to a proxy server we can send a request for a webpage, file, connection or any of these resources available on other servers. What is the best way to use a Craigslist proxy? It is very easy. Proxy server IPs come in numeric format, like 111.111.111.111.111. A Craigslist server prevents Craigslist from seeing your true IP and is really a go between while you are using Craigslist. The IPs from your Craigslist proxy are simply used in any web browsing software such as Internet explorer.

It’s always better to learn how to use a proxy server as it is one of the safest ways of surfing on Craigslist. Understanding what a Craigslist server is and how to use one makes it easier for you to put more ads on Craigslist without worrying about getting caught. Without a Craigslist proxy, you are not covering your tracks and there is a chance that with each post you make on Craigslist you leave a footprint. This footprint makes it possible for Craigslist to track and follow your activities online. This is the very reason why a proxy server plays an extremely important role when posting ads on Craigslist. Without one, you are in essence revealing your cards to Craigslist and making it much easier for Craigslist to know what you are up to or about to do.

These are the reasons why a proxy server is important and should always be used with possible. You should also consider learning how to best use your Craigslist server while posting ads on Craigslist.

5 Tips to Make Money on Craigslist

February 22nd, 2009
Robert asked:

Craigslist is one of the most visited sites on the internet today, with millions upon, millions of visitors a day. With this many visitors

daily, it is very easy to get a nice chunk of traffic with your postings. I have put some tips together for you guys, apply these, and you WILL

make money!

Tip 1: DON’T POST DUPLICATE POSTS!

Posting duplicate posts will do nothing for you but get your ads taken down. Yes, it is easy to just copy and paste, and make over 100 ads within minutes, but it won’t do you any good.

Tip 2: USE DIFFERENT IPS!

Using different IPs is another way to avoid getting your ad flagged. One way Craigslist will know to flag your posts is by looking at the IP you are using. If they see multiple ads from the same IP, they will most likely flag your ad, thus your profits will suffer. (Wait, you won’t have any.) One way you can

change your IP is by using a proxy. If you want a list of them, check out proxy.org. They have thousands of them.

Tip 3: DONT BE AN IDIOT!

Being an idiot is the easiest way to not make money on Craigslist. Do not post something, blatantly spamming your URL. This is an example of what NOT to do:

“HEY GUYS CHECK OUT MY SITE ITS THE BEST!!!! LOL11!!! http://myaffiliatelink.com LOL OK GO THER PLX”

Doing this is also a good way to get banned from your CPA network as well, which also is not a good thing.

Tip 4: CATCH THE CURIOSITY OF THE READER!

This is one of the most important tips of all. By catching the curiosity of the reader you have a much higher chance of getting an email from them, or getting a click on your link. Also, make sure to keep your ad short – this will help catch their curiosity.

Tip 5: DON’T GIVE UP, EVER!

That’s it, DON’T GIVE UP. Giving up is the easiest way to not make money online. To make money you must stick with it. I know it will be hard, but when you finally do get that first sale, or that first lead, it’s the greatest feeling ever. If you can do it once, you can do it a million times.

Craigslist Proxy

February 21st, 2009
Creztor Tessel asked:

be wondering why someone would need a Craigslist Proxy. In fact there are a few very legitimate reasons why a person may need one. This all stems from how Craiglists was designed and functions as the world’s largest and most heavily trafficked online classified website.

The first reason why someone might need a proxy to unblock Craigslist is due to their IP or spam filtering system. Craigslist, in an attempt to limit spam on the website, has several filters in place that log IPs and the amount of ad posts from each specific IP. If during a given time there is an excessive amount of posts from one IP, this will trigger their spam filtering system and that IP will be blocked. The exact duration of this block is unknown, but the common understanding is that initially it is a temporary block lasting only a few hours/days and then there is the hard block. The hard block may last weeks or months or even years. Some people have reported that after a year, IPs that were originally blocked once again work, but this is not the case for everyone. To get an IP blocked for such a length of time, one must be posting hundreds or possibly even thousands of posts day in and day out. If this does happen to you, then the only way you can get your ads showing up again is to change your IP. This is where a proxy for Craigslist which would provide the user with a fresh new IP comes in handy.

The second reason someone may require a proxy to post on Craigslist with is that they wish to remain completely anonymous. IPs enable anyone, with the right tools, to track down and identify your location. Craigslist is a heavily trafficked sight, and with it brings the downside of such a popular website. Changing your IP constantly and regularly will improve your chances of remaining completely anonymous or at the very least, make it increasingly difficult for anyone to track your exact location. Again this is where a proxy is useful as it can provide you with a unique or different IP on request.

Being able to change your IP, while not important for some, is vital for others. There are many reasons why someone may required a Craigslist Proxy and these include only a few examples of increasingly your level of anonymity and avoiding an IP blocks that may be in place. No matter your reason for wanting to use a proxy on Craigslist, it continues to be one of the worlds most trafficked websites.
